Critical Care Transport (CCT)

Critical Care Transport indicates the ambulance is staffed by experienced Registered Nurses or Critical Care Paramedics. We have the capability to transport critically ill or injured patients to any of the specialty hospitals in the Puget Sound area.
Our normal transports include patients requiring heart monitors, single or multiple IV drugs using IV pumps, and ventilator dependant patients. We also have the capability to transport neonate incubators and Balloon Pump monitors and their transport team.

Advanced Life Support (ALS)

"ALS" indicates that the ambulance is staffed with a certified Paramedic and Emergency Medical Technician. These providers are able to perform advanced life support skills such as administering medications, electrical therapy for the heart, intravenous therapy and advanced airway skills such as intubation in a 911 or inter-facility setting.
Rural/Metro provides Paramedic level ambulance services in Pierce county. We currently support the cities of Tacoma, Lakewood, University Place, Riverside, Edgewood, Steilacoom, Ruston, and Puyallup by working side by side with each city Fire Department.

Basic Life Support (BLS)

"BLS" indicates the ambulance is staffed with two certified Emergency Medical Technicians. These providers are able to provide basic life support to injured or ill persons that may include administration of medications such as epi-pens, and aspirin, perform CPR with an AED, monitor vital signs and secure persons suspected with spinal injuries on a long back board for transport to an appropriate facility.

Alternative Transportation Services (ATS)

"ATS" is often referred to as a Wheelchair Van or Cabulance. ATS indicates a transport vehicle equipped with a specialized lift for wheelchairs and is staffed with an employee that is certified in CPR, driving an emergency vehicle and first aid. These services are utilized to transport persons who do not require the services of an ambulance between facilities.
